What are the Husky Motors business hours?
Husky Motors is open Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Vehicles can be picked up or returned 24/7 from the Fleet Commander Kiosk located within the Husky Motors main doors at the Facilities Management Building (#44 on the campus map).
Who can rent Husky Motors vehicles?
Faculty, staff and students for official University-related travel. Student Organizations are required to also have a Student Organization Vehicle Request and Travel Policy Form submitted through Student Activities before a Husky Motors reservation can be approved. All non-University employees/students must be pre-approved to travel within a Husky Motors vehicle.
Can I use a University vehicle for personal use?
Husky Motors rentals for personal use are strictly prohibited.
What is included in my rental fee?
Daily rental fees are for up to a 24-hour period. WEX gas cards are provided for your use in the vehicle. Charges to WEX cards will be added to your final rental bill. Maintenance costs that may be incurred during a rental will be reimbursed to the driver upon return with submitted receipts, but must be approved in advance.
Are toll fees or parking tickets included in my rental fee?
Tolls, citations, and/or parking fees are the responsibility of the primary driver/department/organization associated with the rental. Any unpaid fees will be billed to the responsible party/department/organization for payment. University policy does not allow citations to be paid with University funds.
What are the rental fees?
Rental fees vary by the type of vehicle and mileage incurred during your trip. Visit the Husky Motors website for the most up-to-date rental fees.
How do I access my receipts?
You can see all of your current and complete reservations by accessing My Schedule within your account. There are two query options: Current Requests or All Requests. All Requests will include your completed reservations. Click on the Reservation Report icon located by the "spy glass" to view your reservation receipt.
NOTE: Final rental bills are not processed until after the end of the month to include WEX card charges. Late WEX card charges may be added the next month if they have not processed at the time of billing.
What do I do if I get into an accident?
Remain at the scene and call 911. Once it is safe, notify Public Safety at (906) 487-2216. Any accidents or damage to a vehicle must be submitted to Husky Motors upon your return on an Accident Reporting Form. Failure to report vehicle damage may result in loss of rental/driving privileges.
When can I pick up or drop off my rental vehicle?
FleetCommander access is available 24/7 with the primary driver's Michigan Tech ISO Username and Password. Vehicles can be picked up +/- 60 minutes of scheduled pick-up time. Your official drop-off time will be recorded when you return the keys to the kiosk.
Will I be charged if I cancel my reservation within 24 hours?
A cancellation fee of up to $50 may be charged for all no-shows or cancellations made within 24 hours of your scheduled pick-up time. Please ensure you have cancelled your reservation in Fleet Commander and email huskymotors@mtu.edu if you have a last minute cancellation to allow us to release the vehicle to others who may have pending requests.
What requirements are needed to drive a vehicle?
In order to be an approved driver in Fleet Commander, you must be a current University employee or active student who is at least eighteen years of age and have a valid driver's license recognized by Michigan law. It is the responsibility of the primary driver listed within the reservation that all passengers (or other pre-approved drivers) follow the Husky Motors Policies & Procedures. Include all drivers you would like approved or have been approved for your rental within your reservation request.
By agreeing to these terms, you also confirm that during the time of your rental, all pre-approved drivers still have a valid driver's license with no more than a total combination of five (5) points in the Michigan (or any other) point system, with no single infraction totaling more than three (3) points.
In addition to the above requirements, drivers must complete Van Safety Training in order to reserve and/or drive a 12-15 passenger or cargo van.
Failure to follow the Husky Motors Policies & Procedures or driving without proper certifications may result in loss of rental/driving privileges.
How do I pay for my rental?
Vehicle rental charges are charged to a departmental index. Rental charges may be directly billed in some instances, but must be pre-approved by Husky Motors.
Can student organizations rent from Husky Motors?
Student organizations can rent from Husky Motors, but are required to also have a Student Organization Vehicle Request and Travel Policy Form submitted through Student Activities before a Husky Motors reservation can be approved.
Is the van training required to drive a mini van?
No, Van Certification is only required for our 12-15 passenger or cargo vans.
Are pets allowed in a rental vehicle?
No, pets are not allowed in a rental vehicle. If you have a service animal, please contact us prior to your trip so that appropriate accommodations can be made.
Can you smoke in a University rental vehicle?
Smoking is strictly prohibited in all University vehicles.
How long can I rent a vehicle for?
Husky Motors rental vehicles can be rented by the day, week, or month.
Can my rental vehicle be delivered?
There is a local delivery charge of $15.00 (each way) for vehicles delivered to the airport (or local hotels) for departing/arriving Michigan Tech guests and employees. This charge, as well as any parking tickets received, will be added to the final rental bill.
Can I leave my personal vehicle somewhere during my rental?
If you need to leave a personal vehicle, park your vehicle in the Husky Motors Lot (adjacent to the building along the water). One personal vehicle is permitted per reservation. If you need to park more than one vehicle, please contact Transportation Services (487-1441) for accommodations.
